Out of the Blue: comic 07

This is one of Me and Cameron's favorite comics. Unfortunately Cameron's stupor in the middle two frames are all too real. Were I to actually be sitting and writing a letter in real life he would struggle to find something to explain the irregular behavior. This made it easy for us to transfer to comic format. Incidentally the bowling pin which sits in this comic for no apparent reason, was simply to pay homage to the actual bowling pin we received as a trophy when Cameron and I became the unlikely winners of a Dance competition at a Sandy bowling alley in 1999.

Synopsis

Introduction and Synopsis

Thank you for considering our humble approach to entertainment. John Maxim and I are currently searching for any avenue to express ourselves and our attempts at humor. We have been drawing our comic strip “Out of the Blue” for a little over a year, however, our samples are limited due to our lack of exposure and, therefore, lack of motivation. John and I recently decided to come out of our shells and begin seeking exposure.

“Out of the Blue” is based on actual experiences. John and I purchased a house in Salt Lake City about 4 years ago. We had decided that we didn’t want to pay rent, so we rented out the rooms that were in our house in hopes that we’d make enough money to cover our share of the mortgage. Before we knew it we had a total of 9 (nine) guys renting out rooms in our house. Some of them had doubled up in bunk beds and another agreed to pay us $100 a month to sleep under the stairs. John and I realized that this was an ideal situation to base our comic strip.

“Out of the Blue” is based on the happenings of several guys, most of which are students, ranging in age from 18 to 30. Because the comics are based on actual people (who have all signed a “Release of Liability”) and actual experiences, the potential for humor became endless.

John and I realized that trying to have stories and scenarios about 9 (nine) guys and their mishaps, with the occasional introduction of girlfriends, was going to be difficult if not impossible. So for the sake of over-crowdedness, our character descriptions will be limited to the main participants in the comic:

John: John is one of the main characters. You’ll see over time that even though John is usually the one doing the mocking, he can also take it. Nobody likes the guy that sits back and makes fun of people, but then bursts into tears whenever someone has a below average rebuttal. This undesirable characteristic is reserved for Adam.

Cameron: Cameron is the other main character. Cameron is either John’s sidekick or vice versa. Either way, the humor that they provide together is essential to this strip. The assumption that Cameron is attracted to John will be dispelled early on with the introduction of female love interests.

Adam: Adam has not had a dad for his entire life. He was raised by his mother only, which means that he has a very pronounced feminine side. John and Cameron think that he might like men, but never accuse him of this directly. He does things that only a girl would do (i.e. buys a bedroom set, trendy expensive clothes, holds grudges for days). Adam is also a marine.

Alan: Alan is a massage therapist. He’s fairly obese and realizes that the only way he’ll ever be able to touch anyone without grossing them out will be if he is a certified massage therapist. Ironically, the fattest man in the strip is also the renter living under the stairs.

These are the main characters of the comic “Out of the Blue”. John and I realized that the descriptions provided could be seen as negative and potentially off-color. Let me assure you that the character descriptions are provided only out of necessity. You will see over time that the humor provided by “Out of the Blue” very rarely pushes the limits of good taste. It is a student oriented comic and as such, provides humor that is common among young adults. If you feel that any comic submitted is not appropriate, please let us know and we’ll make every attempt to alter it so that it can be printed with no regret.
